I’m all in for changing the dress code if that what it takes Stephen J. Dubner/ Freakonomics Radio. I love Trader Joe’s. The employees enthusiasm is noticeable and infectious (though perhaps not the best word choice for a food article). I’ve often asked them what makes them so happy to work there. They do share in the stores profits but the main reason seemed to be they really love what they do.
Grocery shopping is chore and not a pleasant experience (setting aside that we are fortunate to even be able to buy food). Trader Joe’s takes that connotation away and while you’re there you forget you’re doing what you hate. Their employees become acquaintances I look forward to seeing and because they never seem like their job is a chore, but rather something they love doing, my job of shopping becomes fun. Helping people while having fun — what a concept to pitch to our Congress.
Let’s start sending those Hawaiian shirts to D.C.
Thanks for writing.
