Lost Humanity in Wheelchair Repair Service

The power drive attached in back of me
moves my wheelchair by Bluetooth technology

The control unit’s an oversized lollypop
Attached by my knee to start or to stop
I spin the dial for speed to excel
Bright lights atop indicate all is well

But beware when they stop blinking
A sign technology’s no longer linking
Nothing changes those staring eyes wide
Not a tap or a turn or a whack on the side

To begin the process to re-engage my ride
depends on it being a weekday: 9 to 5
The bad news I’ll be disabled for weeks not days
COVID collateral the excuse for delays

Dare I pretend my wheelchair’s a car?
I know this ruse won’t go very far
in the land of instant auto repair
But my body relies upon my wheelchair

I need it fixed without a moment’s delay
Not weeks or months or — maybe some day…
