The Poet’s Heart

A shape poem

My shape poem illustrated in the picture above was just published in Fairfield Scribes*MICRO*Fiction’s 26th issue. In the same issue, you will discover Aaron H. Davis and his lyrical poetry along with other fabulous writers.

Medium’s format doesn’t let us do shape poems. For those with visual impairments, my poem is in the shape of a heart made by the following lines:

t r u e l o v e

the treasure in most fairytales

Labrador’s kisses sliming your face

healthcare aides going to work in a pandemic

parents creating safe nests to surround their children

an athlete’s devotion to win gold at the olympic games

giving your undivided attention for no personal gain

insides of marshmallows heating on a campfire

adult children caring for parents in old age

school teachers showing up despite risk

an artist lost in creation of beauty

a dead mouse from your feline

red roses’ unfolding bloom

soldiers defending liberty

a baby’s first breath

you and me

forever

!

Enjoy!
