Weathering the Earth

A series of Haikus

When it’s pouring rain
is Gaia washing herself
or shedding her tears?

When there’s a blizzard
is she soothing a hot flash
or just chilling out?

Is a tsunami
her splashing water around
to rinse off her face?

Is a hurricane
the way she blow-dries her hair
or blows off her woes?

Are her volcanoes
erupting skin blemishes
or outbursts of rage?

Are earthquakes symptoms —
shivering from a fever
or nervous tremors?

Maybe focusing
our attention on her care
will help save her life

and we’ll realize
she’s a heavenly body
in want of our love. . .
